HELLO!

Today is release day for our new turtle design to be released. This little guy took a while in the design stage as I couldn't quite decide on how to do his shell. I like to keep my patterns simple so they are quite and easy to knit for beginners and experienced knitted I finally opted for this design. You can't quite see his shell from the front as his big head kind of gets in the way so here is a little side view of Mr Turtle.

 

I can't believe that it's been 10 weeks already since I started releasing the latest 10 designs. It's been so much fun getting back to dedicating time to Jelly Bums and speaking to a lot of old friends who have supported me from the start back in 2008 and great to get to know some new faces too. Your kind words and support really spur me on to create more designs. As always my most favourite part of designing toys is seeing your finished toys. Recently I've also been reading a lot of emails from you guys about all the charity work you are doing with the finished toys which is fantastic. I really want to feature a few of you guys on the blog with the story behind the toys you are knitting.

I have a lot more designs in the pipeline and you may remember my ever elusive 50 pattern goal, however the list has vastly expanded since then so I'll still be creating for a good while yet. I will now be releasing a pattern a month, so that you guys know that pattern releases will be more regular in the future. I'm also working away on a few more designs over at my other venture Elf Pop Purl which will be solely dedicated to doll knitting patterns. SO pop over and have a wee nosey and keep an eye out for any updates from the shop by favouring the shop, which will update you when any new patterns are listed.

Jelly Bums Duck

 Duck pattern is available from the website, Etsy and Ravelry.

Quack Quack all!
Just popping in to introduce the little Jelly Bum Duck knitting pattern.This design has to be one of my favourites from all the toys I've designed. I created the pattern as a mallard duck, however the duck can easily be  knit in all brown with a little blue stripe on the wings for a female duck version. I've included a front view and a side view of the finished toy as I think you you get a more ducky profile from the side, by seeing the full force of the magnificent bill.  I hope you like him, he's be super cute to knit up for a farm theme or 'old MacDonald' finger puppets for little ones.

So  now this leaves us with only one pattern to release next week to complete the new ten designs. So you know the score by now if you want a peek then head over to our give-away page to be in with a chance of winning the first copy.

Jelly Bum Ladybug

Hello all, today is the release of the latest Jelly Bum design, it's a sweet little ladybug. Or perhaps you call them ladybirds? Whatever you call them, these little darlings are super sweet to knit up and  the very first bug design for Jelly Bums.


I've added in a shot of the ladybug from behind as You only get a glimpse of the wing design from the front. The wings are deigned to be able to 'open' in the middle like a really ladybug preparing to fly away. I'm sure some you your little one will go crazy for this design. So if you knit one up remember to share on our Facebook page or on the Ravelry projects page to show off your finished dolls and inspire other knitters with yarns or unique finishing touches.

It's crazy to think this is the 8th pattern of the latest ten designs. It's been great getting everyone feedback from the new designs and I've loved seeing some new finished toys on the projects page. A little change of scenery for the Jelly Bum designs this weeks as we have a new bird design this week. This fashionable flamingo has made its way into the Jelly Bum collection. It was rather refreshing getting to work with bright pinks rather than the usual neutral fur colours.

Jelly Bum Horse

The Jelly Bum horse has arrived! I hope all you horse lovers out there like him as he's been requested a few times over the years.Plus 2014 is the Chinese year of the Horse so it was only right that a horse had to be released to join the rest of the crew this year.

Jelly Bum Mole

Mole Knitting Pattern available from Etsy, Website & Ravelry

Oh my we're now half way through the new pattern released now that we're on the 5th pattern for a little knitted mole. This little guy has burrowed his way right into the heart of the Jelly Bum zoo as a lovable little character. The little claws on this guy were a challange for me to create wihtout a complex design or too much finshing at the end. I think he looks so sweet and far from being a pest that many golfer see him as!

This week it's a big congratulations to Daniel Stacey who can get his needles clucking by knitting up the chicken pattern he won from last weeks give away. I'm having a lot of fun regaining my knitting fever again and so I'm cracking on through that elusive animal list I've had going for well .... forever! I've had a good few suggestions sent it from people which will duly be tackled. It's always difficult to pick which one to do next as I just wish I had the time to create them all. I've also been adding a few free pattern for Frozen dolls over on my free pattern blog The Knitted Toy Box. On top of that if you haven't seen my knitted doll designs I also have more dolls in the pipeline for my Elf Pop Knitted Doll range. Jelly Bum Chicken

I've popped by today to officially announce the release of the Jelly Bum Chicken toy knitting pattern. I'm wondering if you guys are all fed up looking at eggs, especially of the chocolate kind since yesterday! This pattern has been hugely requested over the years so I've been itching to make one. It adds another little animal to the farmyard bunch including the cat, dog, pig, cow, goat and sheep! Keep an eye out for more friends to join them in the very near future.

It's that time of year when a lot of knitters slow down with their projects as the weather heats up. The Jelly Bum patterns are great quick and simple knit projects for passing the time on lazy days in the garden.

Frog Toy Knitting Pattern

Hey all, today this little froggy will be added to the Jelly Bum crew.  I've had quite a lot of requests for this pattern over the years. I had never really worked out how to design the face to look as you know frogs have those big protruding eyes. I'm really happy with how the finished toy looks, and he has a lot of character is that little green face.

The frog pattern is now the 37th pattern Jelly Bum design, so i'm now making my way through my huge animal list that I set up when I started designing these knitting pattern nearly 6 years ago! If there is a pattern you would love to see me create them please do let me know as I may not have it down in my list. I was contemplating maybe reaching my original goal of 50 patterns and then branching out a section for different breeds of animals like dogs or monkeys. So if that's what you would like to see me create then let me know.

It's been ever so hard not to try and release these patterns as they were finished, but I've managed without whispering a peep! I will be releasing the first design which is that elusive pattern I've had going for about 2 years now. It's a little leopard toy pattern.

I will be releasing this leopard toy pattern on 1st April. So if you want to be in with a chance of winning a copy of the pattern on release day then enter our pattern give-away below.

Please note that this pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters as it does contain a lot of  complex colour changes. If this toy isn't your bag keep tuned on the 1st for the second pattern to be released which is more suited to beginners.

Hedgehog Knitting Pattern

The jelly needles have been click clacking like mad this week and it's time for me to unveil the latest little hedgehog pattern.
A few year ago I very generously recieved a big parcel of yarn from a lovely Ravelry RAK member which contained this brown fuzzy eyelash yarn.  I wanted to use it to create a hedghog as it was perfect for the job - but i'll confess now that it intimidated me! I've also had a request for a hedgehog for a while now so he's been long overdue.
This pattern is classed as advanced beginner as it uses basic beginner skills with some simple intarsia involved. I suggest that you use regular brown yarn rather than the eyelash yarn if you have never worked with the eyelash yarn before. It's fairly tricky to work with as you can see your stitches so it's quite difficult to keep track of what has been knit. The brown pieces are knit in reverse stockinette so even if you use a regular yarn then the 'bumps' give the detail of the spikes.
I hope you like him, he was super fun to make. I really enjoyed the challenge of using unfamiliar yarn and my kids absolutely love him.

The littl efuzzy one brings the Jelly Bum pattern total to 35! As I mentioned before I still have another pattern in progress and it has mostly been knit up and i'll be releasing it before the end of January so keep checking back for any updates.

Camel Knitting Pattern

 Hello all, i've dropped by with another new pattern today, this time it's a camel.
This one was a little tricky to take a photo of as without a side shot it's  difficult to tell what the animal is as its distinguishing feature is obviously its hump.  I just wanted to point out that if you make this little guy, he wont fit into any of the dress up clothes as him hump makes him a lot wider than the other animals.He's really easy to knit up as you only really require increasing decreasing and a small simple colour change.

I've included a side shot for you to see  how he looks from the side.

I'm still riding this creative wave at the moment and have got cracking with the next new design which I planned. Also good news as i found all my notes on that half finished toy o told you about in the last post which i will complete as a fouth new release. Otter Knitting Pattern

The latest little Jelly Bum has arrived and it's an adorable little otter pattern. This little guy looks like he gets up to lots of mischief! I've has a few followers request an otter for the range and finally this little guy popped into my head, I hope you like him. He is super quick to knit up and a great project for those looking to advance their knitting skills as it has small and simple pieces of intarsia within the face.

I wanted to show you a glimpse of how I go about working out the shaping for my toys.

This is a printout my otter notes. I start with the basic shape I keep for all my patterns but adjust to  form into the desired animal along with intarsia charts. I use this to jot things down along with any other pattern related thoughts which pop into my head (you can see my doodling of how I wanted the nose/mouth area to look). The lines and dots are my workings for increasing and decreasing along the piece, however I think it looks a bit like some sort of alien code to an outsider!

I still have two more designs drafted and ready to go to schematic stage. Plus I also found a toy I had started to knit up ages ago (possibly a year or two) which I found tucked away with a bunch of 'back burner' projects. Now if I can find the notes and colour charts I created for it then that's another pattern I can get to working on.

Triple Update

Hello all,
It's good to see you again, as usual i'm skulking in with my tail between my legs for being so lax about the blog. The notion took me this morning to read though all my old blog posts and it brings back some great memories of starting up my little knitting patterns. I wanted to let you know that i'm back to creating patterns again and have three in the sketching stage so i can get an idea of how the finished toy will look. Over the next few days (well when Christmas settles down) i'll be picking up the needles to create them.  I'm a bit undecided on wheter i should release them altogether or spread them out over a few weeks, let me know if you would have a preference.
For the past few months I've been working away on a new project of sewing pattern for my new Etsy shop Elf Pop, I have loads of doll patterns available and have started on an animal toy patterns too. So if you sew then check it out and if you don't then the little cuties are a great way to learn.
I'm going to be a busy bunny over the next few months but remember to keep me posted on what you make with the Jelly Bums because you know I love to see your finished works.

Skunk Knitting Pattern

Introducing our June 2012 pattern, a stinky little skunk. As usual he is available from the website, etsy store and as instant ravelry download.
My apologies for it being nearer the end of the month to release this pattern. I've been really busy working on my new line of sewing patterns. I hummed and ahhed about whether I should make them a new line of Jelly Bums, however I decided it might get a bit too cluttered in my etsy shop and website. So my sewing pattern range is known as Elf Pop which you can find on my website and new etsy shop. I currently only have one dog pattern available but I will be working hard over the next few months to get a good range going. Similar to Jelly Bums I want to have lots of animal pattern with dress ups, however I will probably introduce a doll range too. Don't worry I'm sticking to my promise to bring out at least one Jelly Bum Knitting pattern a month.

Jelly Bum Donkey

Hello everybody, you may have noticed that I am posting a lot more on this little blog. Well as some of you know I was on maternity leave after having our little boy, Flynn, in August last year. I was due to return to uni this June, however due to family circumstances we decided it would be best if I took another year out and then returned in 2013. It feels like a huge weight off my shoulders and also seems to have magically allowed me to start creating again as I have so much more time on my hands.
In the last post i mentioned that there was to be an update to the pattern schedule. Well i have decided to commit myself to releasing one Jelly Bum pattern every month. Not only will this allow me to make patterns of all the animals which have been requested over the years but will help me reach my original goal of releasing 50 patterns and hopefully more!
So for the May 2012 pattern I've been working on this little guys over the past few weeks, a sweet little donkey, hee haw! As usual he is available from Etsy or the website. Let me know what you think and remember if you knit him I want to see so remember and upload the flickr, ravelry, Facebook or just send me an email.

Ravelry Update

Just a quick update to let all you Ravellers out there that all of the Jelly Bum Patterns are available for instant download on Ravelry. At the moment it is only available for single pattern purchases or multiple pattern without the pattern deals added. I have tried adding promotions to allow a discount once more than one pattern is purchased however the checkout is not able to override the other deal promotions.

Just before I go I wanted to post a picture which was uploaded to the Facebook page from a lovely knitter called Catherine. Isn't this little mobile adorable. I love how creative you guys are with the patterns and this is why I love seeing pictures of finished toys.

Sew sketchy

Those of you who are fans on Facebook will see that yesterday I posted about receiving my new sewing machine yesterday. I haven't sewn for a long time since I haven't really had the space to keep a sewing machine, however I really wanted to start making some sewing patterns so I decided just to go ahead and buy one. I'm sure my husband wont mind giving up some wardrobe room for fabrics or listening to the humming of the machine whilst watching his favourite programmes!  I'm currently waiting on a delivery of fabric for creating prototypes so in the meantime I'm sketching franticly as you can see from the rubbish picture above (apologies as it was taken on my phone). Today I'll mostly be working with little cloth scraps and making draft prototypes before I get my hands on some 'proper' fabric. Oh I'm so excited I really can't wait to get some pattern available, I feel like this has jump started the inspiration station in my brain again.

I've been meaning to write this post for a while as the original photo was posted on Ravelry way back in January. I want to introduce you to Martin.

I practically sqweed (I'm not actually too sure how to spell the particular noise I made but you get the picture!) when i seen this little guy. So thanks to Dagny (flyingpigknits on Ravelry) who made this little guy, for giving me permission to pass on her fab idea to you all. Martin is made from the latest Jelly Bums crocodile pattern with the spike from the free Jelly Bum dino suit added to his back, making him into an adorable little dragon. This is why i love seeing what other people make from my patterns as you guys add your own twists and mods so that you can come up with a whole new look to a toy and make some really unique little toys. So please if you knit one of these little guys post some photos to the Facebook page, Ravelry or Flickr, I'd love to see your very own little dragons.

Also just to keep you up to date with how things are going with patterns, i'm currently working on one, have got a bit through it but still trowing ideas at it to see what looks best without making the pattern too fiddly or complicated for beginners or those wanting a quick knit.

I also wanted to ask you guys opinion on a new line of Jelly Bum sewing patterns? I haven't sewn in a long time and in fact don't even own a sewing machine. Recently I've been thinking about getting one to teach my girls how to sew as I feel its one of the skills a lot of children have lost in recent years. This got me thinking about a new range of patterns, and I'd love to hear your opinion even if it's just to say that you would dust off that old singer and get back into sewing yourself.
